You should be able to demonstrate:

  • assertiveness as you would be acting in another person’s best interests

 

Experience

 

Through caring responsibility, parenting or work, it is desirable that you will have experience relating to:

  • young people

  • vulnerable adults. For example, people with a learning disability, mental illness, sensory impairment (visual or aural), or those unable to read or write, This list is not exhaustive.

 

Special Requirements

You will be literate and:

  • age 18 or above

  • readily contactable by telephone and able to leave at short notice, suitably presented, for the custody centre

  • able to arrive at your nearest custody centre (Reigate, Guildford, Woking or Staines) within approximately half an hour. You should have access to transport, or be able to walk there

  • able to commit to being available for call out approximately one week in every four or five. This will typically mean being able to be flexible for that week and not using an ansaphone

  • able to identify regular blocks of time when you are available, either weekdays 8.00am – 5.00pm or evenings 5.00pm – 8.00am and weekends/Bank Holidays (or both)

  • willing to attend quarterly evening meetings to receive ongoing training


All candidates must have a clear police check, which is taken up after interview


Skills and Ability

  • Listening skills

  • Verbal communication skills to be able to explain procedure

  • The willingness and ability to support individuals regardless of colour, creed, gender, disability or sexuality

Skills in other relevant areas are welcomed, for example maketon, languages...
