How to access a Volunteer
-
The service
is accessed through police custody staff, provided that PACE criteria are met
(see What is an Appropriate Adult?)
[ the detained
person is a young person or deemed to be a vulnerable adult
[
no relative, guardian, social worker or other
responsible adult, independent of the police is able to attend
-
24 hour
service
-
Surrey-wide,
serving the 4 custody centres, Reigate, Staines, Guildford and Woking
-
SAAVS
provide police custody staff with rosters.
-
Rosters
indicate which team of volunteers covers that period, and the backup team,
with their telephone numbers. Also any changes in volunteer availability eg
holidays.
-
The police
identify which team is on duty, the office hours or out of hours team
(evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays). They then telephone a volunteer direct
-
If that
volunteer is unable to attend, they telephone another name from the same team. Should all
members of that team be unavailable, for example attending other calls, a
backup team is available
